Our values
As a community formed specifically by and for LGBTQIA+ people who’ve experienced marginalization at the hands of the church, we’ve been told again and again that our identities are incompatible with being part of a community of faith. We reject that notion in all its forms, and instead lead with our queerness.
Community is the cornerstone of Every Table. We cannot exist without each other. Learning to live in right relation with our neighbor is as essential as learning to be in right relation with ourselves.
Our Mission
Our inception was focused on healing from the ways Christianity in particular has caused harm to those with marginalized identities. Yet, as we have continued to gather, we have discovered that healing speaks many languages, and religious trauma is not relegated to those who’ve been harmed in the name of a false Jesus. Our participants come from all varieties of faiths. Whether from a Christian, Hindu, Muslim, or Jewish background, we have all experienced marginalization from the faith communities of our childhood and have found collective healing when we come together for the purpose of healing. We are here for collective liberation and nothing less.
The name Every Table is an affirmation that Jesus didn’t have a tab le. He ate at tables where he was welcomed. Every table where he is welcomed also welcomes the disenfranchised masses.
Every body is precious.
Every day is holy.
Every place is sacred.
Jesus modeled a way of being that embodied what it means to honor the fullness of one’s humanity and to see the divinity within everyone, especially those most marginalized by society.
Our Leadership
-

Rev. Jess Cook (ey/em or they/them)
ORGANIZING MINISTER
Reconciliation is only possible if we are able to be honest with ourselves and one another about the ways we are broken. True reconciliation requires relationships, and relationships require trust and vulnerability. Jess cultivates spaces where vulnerability is celebrated and trust can be built.
-
Charles Bolling II (he/she/they/we)
WELLNESS MINISTER
By cultivating a space to explore abolition in the body, Charles helps facilitate room for authentic expression of self, allowing for presence in our collective humanity and through this process, community is created.

Dr. Tamice Spencer-Helms
COMMUNITY THEOLOGIAN
Dr. Tamice Spencer-Helms is a community theologian who pastors spiritual fugitives, nones, and dones—those who are leaving or have left institutional Christianity but remain on sacred ground. For over 20 years, Tamice has walked alongside young adults and college students in the wilderness between what faith was and what it’s becoming.
As community theologian Tamice creates refuge and revolution for those seeking post-Christian faith formation. Their work is rooted in womanist methodology and Hush Harbor practice—ancient traditions of freedom-making that honor the spiritual wisdom of those living on the margins.
Whether through retreats, digital sanctuaries, or one-on-one spiritual direction, Tamice’s ministry confronts “diseased imagination”—the spiritual violence that stifles agency and creativity—and midwives spaces where every person can be seen, known, and liberated.
Tamice is the author of Faith Unleavened: The Wilderness Between Trayvon Martin and George Floyd and holds two master’s degrees and a doctorate in Social Transformation.
